Good Friday

The Cost of Peace

The world longs for peace. Peace with God, with others, and within ourselves. But true peace came at a cost. On the cross, Jesus willingly gave his life, taking the punishment for everything that separates us from God. He died not because he had to, but because of his love, paying the price so that we could be forgiven and know real, lasting peace with our Creator.

"But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds." Isaiah 53:5

The Silent Saturday

Saturday

The Wait

Jesus lay in the tomb. To those who loved him, it looked like the end. But God's plan wasn't finished. Sometimes life feels like Saturday, caught between grief and hope. Yet even in the silence, God was at work.

"They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards." Matthew 27:66

Easter Sunday

The Day Death Lost

On the third day, God raised Jesus from the dead. Death could not hold him. In that moment, death lost its grip and its final word was silenced. Because Jesus lives, everyone who puts their trust in him can be forgiven, made new, and given the hope of life that never ends. This is the day death lost, and the day hope was born.

"He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay." Matthew 28:6

Common Questions About Easter

What actually happened at Easter?

Easter is the most important event in the Christian faith. On Good Friday, Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross. He was buried in a tomb, and on the third day, God raised him from the dead. Christians believe this really happened in history, and that it changes everything about how we relate to God. The Bible teaches that through his death, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, and through his resurrection, he defeated death and opened the way for anyone to be forgiven and have eternal life with God.

Why did Jesus have to die?

The Bible teaches that every person has sinned and fallen short of God's perfect standard. Sin separates us from God, and the just consequence is death. But because God loves us, he sent his Son Jesus to live the perfect life we couldn't live and to die the death we deserved. On the cross, Jesus willingly took the punishment for our sin in our place. It wasn't an accident or a tragedy. It was God's plan from the beginning to rescue people who could never rescue themselves.

Did the resurrection really happen?

Christians believe the resurrection is a real historical event, not just a metaphor or a nice idea. The Bible records that Jesus appeared to over 500 people after he rose from the dead. The tomb was empty, and the earliest disciples were willing to give their lives for what they had seen. The apostle Paul wrote that if Christ has not been raised, then the whole Christian faith would be worthless. The resurrection is the foundation of everything Christians believe, and we think the evidence for it is compelling.

What does Easter mean for me personally?

Easter means that forgiveness and a new start with God are available to anyone. The Bible says that if you turn from going your own way and put your trust in Jesus, you can be completely forgiven. Not because of anything you've done, but because of what he has done. God accepts us not based on our goodness, but on the basis of what Christ accomplished on the cross. That's what the Bible calls grace, and it's at the heart of the Easter message.

I'm not a Christian. Can I still come?

Absolutely. You don't need to believe anything or know anything to walk through our doors. Our services are open to everyone, and there's no pressure to do or say anything you're not comfortable with. We'd simply love you to come, hear the message, and consider it for yourself. Many people in our church first came along as guests or sceptics. You're very welcome here.

What happens at an Easter service?

Our services typically run for about 75 minutes. You can expect a mix of singing, a Bible talk, and prayer. On Good Friday, the tone is more reflective as we focus on the cross. On Easter Sunday, the mood is celebratory as we focus on the resurrection. We have programmes for kids at our morning services, and there's always coffee and a chance to chat afterwards. You won't be singled out or put on the spot.

How can I find out more about the Christian faith?

We'd love to help you explore further. A great place to start is reading the Gospel of Luke in the Bible, which tells the story of Jesus in a clear and compelling way. We also run a course called Explaining Christianity, designed for anyone who wants to investigate the Christian faith at their own pace. You're also welcome to chat with anyone on our team after a service, or get in touch through our website.

We'd Love to See You This Easter

Whether you're exploring faith for the first time or you've followed Jesus for years, you're welcome to join us as we celebrate the hope Jesus brings. Come as you are.
