Use what God has given you to serve others
Ministry is identifying, equipping, and unleashing people for works of service. At Ev, everyone has a part to play.
Every person has a part to play
Serving happens in all kinds of ways: up front, behind the scenes, on Sundays, and throughout the week. Some roles are highly visible; many are not. Every one of them helps our church family love people well and make Jesus known.
God gives each Christian gifts to use for the good of others. Serving is not about status or recognition. It is faithful stewardship of God’s grace, offered in the strength he provides and for his glory.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. We want to help you identify how God has shaped you, equip you for the role, and support you as you serve.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
Serving at Ev
Find a sustainable way to serve
We encourage everyone who calls Ev home to have at least one serving outlet. The shape of that commitment will look different for different people.
Primary team
A regular role with clear expectations and responsibility. Because of the commitment involved, people normally serve on one primary team at a time.
Secondary team
If you have the capacity, you may also serve in another area alongside your primary role.
Projects and events
Short-term opportunities let people contribute to a particular event, season, or practical project.
Serve with humility, joy, and effectiveness
Serving like Jesus involves humility: looking to the needs of others rather than seeking attention for ourselves. It also brings joy, because God uses ordinary people and ordinary acts of service to build his church.
Good serving is effective as well as willing. That means being dependable, learning from others, receiving training, and doing the role with care.
Serving will sometimes cost us time, comfort, or convenience. We make those sacrifices because Christ first served us, and because his kingdom is worth advancing.
